So what are some of your favorites?
Either readers, authors, or just companies.
Sounds True, from what I noticed, generally does a good product. But a lot of companies, when they actually do produce books on tape, don't seem to get a good reader, or even anyone that understands what they are doing---which can certainly hurt a book.
Any one have any fav's to share?

Fri, February 27, 2004 - 1:16 PMAnything by Barbara Kingsolver.....she usually narrates her own novels....and she does a wonderful job!
Did anyone listen to The Five People We Meet in Heaven? Too much background music....very distracting!

Wed, May 4, 2005 - 9:09 AMFor companies, I've always liked The Reader's Chair. ...but I just went to their website and learned they are out of business (DAMN, DAMN, DAMAN, DAMN, DAMN).
It looks like they sold their Dean Koontz titles (The Bad Place, Cold Fire, and Hideaway) to Brilliance Audio. If you like Dean Koontz, I highly recommend these readings by Carol Cowan and Michael Hanson. With Carol reading the female or lighter parts and Michael's bass voice taking the male or darker parts (depending on the title) it really carries the story well.

Wed, May 4, 2005 - 9:15 AMOne of my favorite (abridged) BoT's is Tom Clancy's RED STORM RISING, read by F. Murry Abraham.
Mr. Abraham doesn't just read the story, he PERFORMS the characters. EVERY character has a different voice in this recording. His performance is assisted by some background special effects, such as guns firing and the sound of explosions, but it's his performance that sells the BoT.
In my humble opinion, of course...
